OWENSBORO MUSEUM OF FINE ART
Owensboro, Kentucky
CALL FOR ENTRIES
The Exhibition
RIVERCOUNTRY REFLECTIONS is a juried exhibition designed to record
and celebrate the past and present history and cultural traditions
of the region of Northwest Kentucky. Artists are invited to travel
the area which has as its focus Owensboro, Kentucky and record and
interpret through painting and sculpture, a sense of place of the
region.
The award winning works will be accessioned onto the collection of
Owensboro Medical Health System, a major new regional medical
facility, currently under construction. This collection of two and
three dimensional art is planned to depict the people, history and
places of the hospital's service area of Northwestern Kentucky and
Southern Indiana.
The theme of the exhibition complements the architectural and design
plans for the new multimillion dollar healthcare facility, which are
based on the natural elements of the Ohio River landscape. The works
chosen for awards will reflect this design concept and contribute to
the idea that art can be a calming and positive force and an
important component in a healing environment.
Throughout recorded history, we see evidence that pictures, stories,
dances, music and drama have been central to healing rituals.
Today's renewed focus on humanistic care is leading to resurgence in
the knowledge and practice of incorporating the arts into healthcare
services.
