|I am an oil painter who is inspired by light, color, and the textures of the paint. I paint what I am drawn to—whether it is a piece of fruit by the window, a street scene in some exotic location, or a flaming autumn tree in my own backyard. I often begin with a photo that I have taken. My goal is not to create an exact copy but to find the soul of the image and recreate it using the tools of paint on canvas.
I spent a year in Spain as a college student and I began to paint what I saw on my trip. In May, I had the opportunity to travel to Cuba where I spent two weeks enjoying the culture, the people, and the scenery. Since returning from Cuba, I have begun a series of paintings that were inspired by the fascinating country. I enjoy traveling, but I am equally inspired by a visit to a Louisville farmers’ market.
Wherever I go, I am on a quest for rich light and color and the beauty hidden in the ordinary. I am grateful to the Creator for all of these gifts.
