|I am a Kentuckiana artist specializing in Calligraphy, Collage, Digital Collage and Mixed Media Paintings on canvas. My motherís uncle and father did fine lettering, engraving it on gold jewelry in Louisville, but I didnít know about that until after they were gone and we found books of their lettering designs and old engraving equipment. As a child I loved my grandfatherís beautiful fountain pens in their marbled jewel colors and my grandmotherís autograph book with flourished writing on every page. Calligraphy - even though I didnít know the word then - was in my soul.
My dadís mother, a former Georgia mayor and a former Louisville resident, used to take me íjunkingí. She would buy old furniture and repurpose them beautifully. She sewed, hooked rugs, knitted and crocheted and generally taught me how to live an artful life.
From those beginnings, I had an itch inside me to create. I did many crafts before finally taking a calligraphy class, which is what made everything come together for me. From there I took classes in and/or experimented with many media, but calligraphy is where my training is heaviest. I have studied with many of the best calligraphers in the world, and am fortunate to call many of them ífriendí.
My specialties are fine hand lettering for weddings, other events, logos and more; paper and digital collage; handmade books and acrylics on canvas. Other interests are photography, pastels, watercolor, paper making, printmaking and drawing.
