Kentucky Shakespeare Festival is the oldest free, professional, independently operating Shakespeare festival in North America. Since 1960, Kentucky Shakespeare Festival has provided free Shakespeare performances in historic Old Louisville’s Central Park during the summer months. In addition, the Festival has summer camps for 5-18 year olds, a prison program at Luther Luckett Correctional Complex in Oldham County, and K-12 education outreach programs that have reached to all 120 counties in Kentucky as well as surrounding states. In 1984, Kentucky Shakespeare Festival was designated as the state Shakespeare Festival.
